New Year

Well it's a new year.  Where did 2013 go?  I had a lot going on last year and didn't do much crafting.  But this year I want to change that and make more time for myself.  So first thing I have planned is to make a new quilt and finish a couple that need binding.  I've been working on the design this past week and hope to start sewing in the next few days.  I have all the blocks drawn out so all that's left now is to make a trip to the fabric shop and spend a few hours picking out what colors I want.  That may be the most difficult part!

Crayon Challenge

This is a quilt that I made for a challenge in my local MQG.  All of the quilts entered in this challenge were donated to a quilt drive for hurricane sandy.  It was called the crayon challenge. What we had to do was to pick five crayons out of a bag and what ever colors that you got  you had to use two for print fabrics and three for solid fabrics.  And this was all that was allowed on the quilt. I really had no idea what I was going to do until about four days before the deadline.  But I got it done!  I was really shocked when it also won second place in the challenge. There were a lot of really beautiful quilts that day.

Long Over Due

There was a challenge that we had in my local MQG that we used Jay McCarroll fabrics. It really has been a while but I thought I would post a pic of it. I guess it better late than never. Right??

For the background I used a Kona Solid-  Med. Grey. Along with the grey is also three other Kona Solids, Petal, Chartreuse, and Pomegranate. It's is all pieced and straight lined quilted. No pattern, so if I were to make another one it might not look the same. Of all my quilts, this one is my favorite.

New Stuff

I have a couple of quilts I would like to share with you today. The first one I call "Floating Gems". It's all pieced and straight line quilted.

The next one is a WIP, I still need to pin and quilt it. Hope to have it finished soon. Not really sure what I will call this one but that's ok. Do I really have to name every quilt I make?  This one is pieced along with the circle. The way I did the circle was by using what is called a  "6 minute circle" method. Really was simple, and I would make more. Although it did take me a little longer than 6 minutes. You can find in the book called "Pieced Curves So Simple" by Dale Fleming. Great book! I love it.

I really have been looking for a place to order labels for my quilts. I guess I want something fancy I don't know. But anyway I just can't seem to find what I want. So I sat down one day and made a few at home. This is what I came up with. What do you think?

They measure 1.25" wide  x 1.5" long and printed on a cotton twill fabric that can be put through the computer printer. I'm not one that likes to sew a quilt label onto the back of my quilts so I just slip it into the seam when I am attaching the binding. After I do that all I have is a 1.25" x 1.25" small square sticking out. Simple simple. It makes me happy.

Rain Rain Rain

Rain rain go away. What a way to start the day. Oh well. Just setting here thinking about my class I had yesterday. It went well, had a new instructor and she is great. So I think I'm going to enjoy this section on vegetables. This class had a few firsts for me. First I ate Brussel sprouts, not bad at all. I would eat them again. Second, beets.... Not what I expected. I think they could have been cooked a little longer but I'm sure I'll try them again. Third, mashed cauliflower with a few potatoes added. Yet another taste I was not expecting. Think I would eat that again also. Forth, stuffed cabbage. Not so sure on that one. Probably would try it, just to see, I just couldn't get this cabbage to cut with fork. So if we make it again I will give it a second chance. All in all everything was really good!

On another note.....guess where I will be one year from now?? That's right. QuiltCon. I seriously can not wait. This is going to be so much fun. I think a few of us form the guild are going to go together. One big quilting conference. Can't get better than that! You should really check it out if you into quilting. Just click on the link I have here on my blog page on the side "The Modern Quilt Guild" and it will tell you all about it. But if you going you better start making your plans soon.

Think I'm going to go and work on our guilds new BOM. Have a great day!

What To Do

Right now I feel like the project queen! I have so many things going at once I just don't know where to start. I probably have three quilt tops started that I need to complete. Sewing room is a mess. Not to mention I need to paint the walls and hang up my second design wall in there. I wouldn't have that if I didn't have at least two quilts going at once all the time. Oh well, right now I need to go do my homework for school. We have finished Soups and Sauces, and are starting vegetables today. Then maybe at least start the cleaning process. Have a great day!
